I have made about 20 acrylic pens. Now I am about to start making wood pens. First thing I have to get is those HDPE bushes and the mops. I have everything else. Wish me luck. I am having a lot of fun.

So curious here. I normally use a drill press and pen vice to drill my blanks but had a hard time with making an acrylic key chain tooth pick holder. The hole was basically too large and wallered out. So it was suggested to use my lathe to get a more accurate hole. So I got the accessories needed for my lathe and the hole is more straight but still too big, the drill insert falls right through. Could I have a bad 11mm bit even though it is brand new? Or something else?

this is funny... i am using a small room in my basemnt,where i already use old school AV carts for my larger machines ( planer,CNC,drill press,bandsaw, thinkness sandder) moving them to the center when needed, i also use peg boad in front of my lathe too handle my chizels, 4 way chuck, jacobs chuck and several alen wrenches ,i do keep my bushings for turning in a plastic draw system, so yeah this is all a good ideal :)

Very nice. Only thing you might have showed that you need to sand the ends of the blank.

We have a rockwell, beaver. The Headstock and tail are solid, no taper on ether. Suggestions for a work around would be appreciated

Does the CA glue have a shelf life? I have been doing CA glue finishes for several years with no I’ll affects. Recently any use of CA glue irritates my eyes sometimes swelling them up. I have used both a mask and a full face respirator and continue to have those issues

You mentioned using rouge when buffing. Where do you get it? I didn't see it on your website.

In a previous video by Barry, he demonstrated it using the Abralon mesh sanders in between the regular sandpaper and the wet sanding pads. Are the Abralon mesh sanding steps no longer needed?

Think I've been doing most of these things recently. I did lose one $100 roller ball this year from someone dropping it on the pavement - padded tile added to the list! My biggest challenge was feeling confident enough to actually ask for $50 - $100 for a decent pen. I like the idea of having one super high priced as a show-off piece and to set the price ceiling. Good tips all around - thanks for putting this together.

Try Acks abrasive paste and carnuba wax polish after you apply the Ca glue to your pens, hundreds now use our way to finish a pen, not wet sanding, no dust. No one we know wet sands anymore!! There is no reason to do that.

I have made several pens so far and I must say I'm highly disappointed in the process. I have found the blanks are not hard after cooking but are rather like soft rubber. I have used a thermometer so think the temp is right. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but the pens are so bad that I won't even give them away. I would rather disasember and start over with wood or some other material. Can you provide some insight as to what I'm doing wrong? I hope you are still watching this video for comments. Thanks so much.

Such a wonderful instructor. No ums or ahs. Stayed in sequence of correct steps. It does look as if the clay is “proud” around the bushings instead of flush with the bushing. Is that typical of clay pens?As soon as he suggested to hide a “messy seam” I knew he was the real thing. Only a trick that someone who has made pens before would know that. Great video. Just submitted my order.

I need a mandrel, I also need money to buy a mandrel.
